How to Stop the “Everyone” Tag on Facebook
When the @everyone tag was introduced on Facebook, I freaking HATED IT.
Now, I use it daily in my groups!
The difference?
I didn't understand how to CONSENT or OPT OUT, and now I do so I'm going to show you how to, too.
*NOTE FOR GROUP OWNERS: You can link to this post if your members are asking how to opt out of “everyone” tags!*
Benefits of leaving The @everyone tag oN for groups you enjoy:
I love interacting with my people and making sure they SEE my posts. But I also understand not everyone LOVES notifications. There are many benefits to keeping batch mentions on; here are a few:
You won't miss out on important announcements!
You'll be reminded to interact, because sometimes Facebook buries content even if we love it.
You can support the group owner's hard work by “liking” their comments, if nothing else!
Heads up… I'm going to show you exactly how to turn off batch mentions/@everyone tags but your screen MAY look different than mine depending on when you do this.
Facebook updates things frequently, so pay attention to the actual features moreso than the exact layout that I am showing in these screenshots.

Turn @everyone Tags off for a SPECIFIC Group
If you want to stay in a group but opt out of getting tagged when the admins use the @everyone tag, follow these steps:
When a notification pops up that (PERSON) tagged “you and others” in a group post, that usually means they used the @everyone tag.
See those 3 little dots? Click them!
Then you'll see something like this pop up:
The option right under that is to turn notifications about that specific POST off. So for example if you want to keep the @everyone tag ON but you're not interested in that POST, you'd turn notifications off about that post ONLY.
Or, if you want to turn them off as soon as you join a group, BEFORE you get tagged, go to the group and click on “joined.”
Then, click “Manage Notifications”
If there's no option to “turn off batch notifications,” you can turn off ALL notifications, or only PUSH notifications… or just choose “Highlights” – but Facebook is weird about the “Highlights” it shows, so it's kind of useless if you ask me.
Turn @everyone tags off for ALL Groups
The @everyone tag is referred to as “batch mentions” on Facebook. You can turn them off completely by following these steps.
Click your profile picture in the top right of Facebook.
Select Settings & privacy, then click Settings.
In the left column, click Notifications.
Click Tags.
Below Receive notifications for, toggle Batch mentions to turn them off. The way it is in the picture above, they are turned ON. If you want them OFF for every group, you'll click the toggle, it'll turn grey like the ones above, and it'll be OFF.
