High-Ticket vs. Low-Ticket: Why Low-Ticket Memberships Win Every Time
The online coaching world loooooves to preach high-ticket.
“You have to charge your worth!” they say.
“Just sell a $5K-$10K program, and you'll make six figures in no time!”
But let’s be realistic.
Getting someone to drop $10K right now? It’s HARD.
People are skeptical. They're tired of overpriced courses that promise the world and deliver a glorified Google search. They don’t want to sit through a 90-minute webinar or get on a sales call where some bro marketer pressures them into maxing out their credit card.
And the worst part?
Even if they DO buy, high-ticket clients are often the most stressed-out customers you’ll ever have.
From getting roped into Rudy's $15K mastermind (BIGGEST mistake of my life) to signing up for a $2K coaching program last year only to have the coach be SUPER attentive BEFORE I paid, and barely around afterwards… I've had my fair share of high-ticket experiences.
That’s why I’m here to tell you: Low-ticket memberships are better.
Better for you and better for your people.
Low-ticket is easier to sell. It's almost like not having to sell at all.
And your customers? They’ll actually LOVE you instead of sending you angry emails at 2 AM – expecting you to answer right away because you paid them so much.
Examples of Low-Ticket Memberships
Because I teach people how to build low-ticket memberships, I have several examples of amazing memberships to share. I feel like I should do a whole separate post though, because this one will get toooo long if I dive into all of my favorites.
I'll link to them so you can check them out, and then I'll write another post later and come back to update this one. Deal?
Passive Income Pathways VIP Memberships
I promise my next post will be a highlight reel of all of the amazing memberships inside my VIP program. 🙂
Pam's Template Treehouse – This membership is the gold standard, y'all. If you want to SHINE in the low-ticket membership world, follow Pam's example. She was my first VIP and is a #VIP4Life. Everyone loves her membership and her churn rate is really low.
Not my VIP but still amazing… Liz Wilcox
A great shining star example I can think of that's been around for a few years now is Liz Wilcox's Email Marketing Membership (my affiliate link). I renew my $108 membership every single year (at Black Friday, for the bonuses).
She's a millionaire because of a low-ticket membership!
Or, at least that's what people on that Survivor show say… I know she at LEAST makes multiple 6 figures each year. 😉
We'll talk about this in another post, but one thing Liz does really well is that she stays on topic. She only talks about email marketing. Period.
Even if I don't use the email templates very often (I've trained my customGPTs well), the extras (courses, co-working, etc) make the membership worth it.
And that brings up a good point: even if people aren't using your membership resources on a regular basis, if they know you're going to deliver value throughout the year, they'll stay.
I love Liz's membership so much that I wrote a whole post about it. 🙂
1. Low-Ticket = Less Sales Friction, More Yeses
Selling a $7-$15 membership is stupid easy compared to trying to convince someone to drop $10K.
Why?
Because a small, no-brainer price tag removes resistance.
Think about it: if someone just downloaded your freebie and loves it, are they more likely to:
✅ Say YES to a $7-$15 membership that helps them take the next step?
❌ Or jump straight into a five-figure coaching program that requires a huge financial commitment and trust level?
The answer is obvious.
A low-ticket offer is an easy yes. It doesn’t require weeks of persuasion, endless follow-ups, or exhausting sales calls.
And once someone is inside your membership? They’re way more likely to stick around, upgrade, and refer others.
2. No Buyer’s Remorse = Happier Customers
How many times have you bought a course or membership and instantly felt regret?
Usually that happens when it's expensive.
High-ticket buyers expect miracles.
They’ve just spent thousands of dollars, and if they don’t see results FAST, they panic.
They question everything. They feel scammed.
Cue:
😡 Refund requests
😡 Complaints
😡 Endless “I need more support” emails
I had a $2K service client in January and she was a fucking nightmare. I was coaching her, building her a brand and website, and she was incessent. The messages were constant and she was so passive aggressive.
I realize not all higher ticket clients are going to be disasters like this woman was, but out of thousands of low-ticket clients, I've had very few problem customers.
Most low-ticket customers who pay $7-$15?
They aren’t overanalyzing. They aren’t demanding the world.
They’re thrilled they got insane value for such a small investment.
And happy customers = a thriving business.
Plus, financial accessibility is huge for me.
As someone who has been homeless – and now traveled the world – there's nothing more important to me than making sure anyone who wants to make money with a low-ticket membership can.
3. Predictable, Recurring Revenue (Without the High-Ticket Hustle)
Let’s talk about the biggest high-ticket myth out there:
💰 “I only need a few clients to hit my income goals.”
Yeah… but good luck getting them.
Right now, convincing someone to hand over $10,000 is harder than ever. The economy is weird. People are wary. And if you’re relying on big-ticket sales to survive, you’re stuck in a constant cycle of:
- Hunting for new leads
- Convincing, nurturing, and selling HARD
- Praying someone buys so you can hit your income goal
It’s exhausting. And unpredictable. But it doesn't have to be. Your income can increase steadily with a low-ticket membership. So even when there are highs and lows, you're still able to pay your bills.
I'm not saying it's impossible to snag high-ticket clients. I'm saying it's more difficult than it needs to be. And if it wasn't? You wouldn't be reading this post. 😉
Now, imagine this instead:
1,000 people paying $15/month for your membership.
That’s $15,000 per month in recurring revenue. Without constant launches. Without stress. Without chasing clients.
A low-ticket membership gives you stability—because once it’s built, it grows and becomes more passive.
4. No Sales Calls, No Webinars, No Exhausting Launches
Selling high-ticket means spending hours doing:
❌ Strategy calls
❌ Endless DM convos
❌ Live webinars that take forever to prepare
Now, let me introduce you to my Blog to Membership Formula (aka the Slip N Slide Path).
It looks like this:
💡 Step 1: Create blog/YouTube content that attracts your audience
🎁 Step 2: Offer a freebie they LOVE (cheat sheet, mini-course, etc.)
📧 Step 3: Let email do the work (automated nurture sequence)
💳 Step 4: Offer your low-ticket membership—an easy yes after they already trust you
The way I teach my members to launch their own memberships is with a 3-day challenge. You can host this challenge for free or make it paid, and then the replays can be paid as well.
The energy of a challenge can't be beat; everyone working on the same project at the same time, towards a common goal. It truly is magical. I LOVE hosting and participating in challenges!
And then? It's time for your challenge participants to slip n' slide right into your membership!
No chasing. No hard selling. Just predictable income.
Please, forgive me for the cheesy image. It's fucking hilarious. I love AI.
I'm not trying to fluff things up or tell you that running a low-ticket membership is easy peasy lemon squeezy, because it's not. But it's much easier than having to figure out how to use icky sales psychology (dig that knife into their pain points!) to get people into your 5-figure program.
I've been running low-ticket memberships since 2016. The first year is the hardest. If you give it your all, put in 110% for that first year, your second year is going to feel like a cake walk.
Your membership will be growing steadily, you're going to be able to work less than you did the first year, and you're going to be able to finally see the huge possibility of it all.
