How to Use AI Without Sounding Like a Robot

Have you ever used a one-click blog post generator and thought… wow, that robot sure nailed it?

Jimmy Fallon saying "NAILED IT!"

Me, neither, friend.

If you want to write amazing blog posts, you have to put a little work in on the front end before an article writer can generate you a solid blog post draft.

Quick Take: Training AI on your voice helps create authentic content faster. This post shows you how to do it using RightBlogger's MyTone and Projects features, plus tips for getting the best results whether you're a complete beginner or already using AI tools.

Teaching the Robots Your Voice

Whether you're using ChatGPT, Claude, or an amazing all-in-one AI tool like RightBlogger, it all starts with training the robot on your voice.

This isn't an Ariel-Ursula situation where your voice is going to get stolen… the bots are just gonna borrow it for a bit. 😉

Why Your Voice Matters (And Yes, It Matters)

Having a consistent voice is what turns random readers into ride-or-die followers who trust you know your shit and actually implement what you teach.

When someone lands on your blog, they should instantly know it's you. They don't want some watered-down AI version of you, but the real deal. How do you do that while using AI? I thought you'd never ask...

How to Train Your AI (Without Losing Your Soul)

I've spent countless hours figuring this out (so you don't have to), and here's what actually works.

You can use a prompt like this:

Please learn my writing style and voice, and ask questions to clarify.

[give writing sample]

Then, say: please write a sample paragraph in my voice so I know you understand the assignment.

Go back and forth with the AI until you feel it's captured how you write.

Or, you can hit the easy button.

If you're using RightBlogger, this is so simple! And yes, you can get a free account but this is a paid account feature.

You can read my RightBlogger review right here.

Go up to the top of your dashboard where your profile options are and click “MyTone” in the dropdown.

Choose one of your best blog posts that you've written all by yourself and pop it into the “Use Blog Post URL” box.

Or, record yourself speaking, and put the transcription into the “Use Text Sample” box. Both work well.

I used this feelings don't pay the bills post as a voice example. You want to use a post you've actually written.

For example, my ChatGPT prompts for ADHD business owners is mostly, well, prompts. So I wouldn't use that as an example of my voice. The more real the voice sample is, the better MyTone can capture it.

Bold, blunt, relatable motivation… okay, RightBlogger did nail that one. Damn.

To take it a step further, you can add in extra information in the “Edit MyTone” box.

Digging Deeper

For example, do you love throwing in pop culture references? Use lots of emojis? Do you start sentences with “But here's the thing…”?

Be sure to toggle on the “improve readability and humanize?” option before clicking save.

Now is the time to tell the AI about these little quirks that make your writing uniquely you.

Who are you known as? How do people see you?

Are you the friendly tech expert next door? The no-nonsense business guru? Let the AI know what persona you're going for. I like to tell myself I'm a mix between Jillian Michaels and Gary Vaynerchuk, with a lil' Mel Robbins mixed in.

What makes your writing unmistakably yours? For me, it's:

  • Parenthetical asides (because I always have more to say)
  • Bold statements that cut through the BS (think Gary Vaynerchuk)
  • A healthy dose of tough love (think Jillian Michaels)

(And yes, I track all of this in my Second Brain Dashboard. Because being consistent as fuck doesn't happen by accident.)

Giving AI Guardrails

I also like to tell AI how NOT to write, too. I don't start sentences with “here's the deal” or “this is the truth:” as often as AI likes to, so I tell it NOT to include those types of sentence starters.

Maybe you never use exclamation points, or you always write in short paragraphs. These “never/always” rules help keep the AI's writing consistent with your style.

The first thing I do is tell AI not to use comparative sentence structure. You know, the “this isn't just about ______, it's _________.” That's a dead giveaway to me that AI wrote something (even though, yes, many humans probably write like that, too). That sentence structure triggers me though. LOL

RightBlogger makes this process smoother than general AI tools because it's built specifically for bloggers. You can save your style preferences, create content templates, and maintain your voice across all your posts.

Using Projects with MyTone in RightBlogger

If you're using RightBlogger (which obviously you are, because you work smarter, not harder)… you can use your “MyTone” inside of Projects! This is a really cool new-ish feature that everyone is falling in love with.

I created a project labeled “PIPs voice” for my blog posts here on Passive Income Pathways. I chose my “bold, blunt, relatable motivation” tone from the drop down, and also included my URL, target audience, etc.

This saves even MORE time, as if having robots help write my blog posts wasn't enough?! RightBlogger is the gift that keeps on giving.

The Projects feature remembers your voice preferences. No more re-explaining your style or tone every time you start a new piece. Just pick your project, and RightBlogger knows exactly how you want to sound.

Coolest part about this? If you're ADHD like I am, you probably have multiple projects. I can select a voice for each one. For example, I'm not going to be dropping f-bombs over on my family travel blog, but I'll sure as fuck drop them here cuz this is all me!

Using Projects and MyTone

Choose your tool (I chose the article writer), and select the project you want to use.

You can add in additional instructions for the outline and/or the article, and you can also add in a knowledge source. So if you've written a post about it already, or you have a YouTube video, or you just want to add text, you can!

Taking the time to properly prepare the robots to write your article will give you the best results, which means less edits, which means less time from idea to smashing that publish button!

One RightBlogger has generated the outline, go through it line by line to see if there is anything you'd change. If there is, change it now! It's much easier than having to edit it out after the fact.

There is a much faster option for writing blog posts (video to blog post tool), but I know some of y'all are still fighting me on doing video, so I hope this process helps you speed up your publishing! 🙂

Once the article writer generates a blog post draft for you, you'll copy and paste it over into your WordPress dashboard and edit from there. Or, if you notice it didn't capture what you were looking for, you can start over. RightBlogger offers unlimited credits, so you don't have to worry about hitting your output limits every 2 hours (like I do with Claude).

I realized I didn't train the AI to write in short paragraphs (or rather, 1-2 sentence “paragraphs”), so I'm going to add that to my Project knowledge for next time. Aside from this being a big block of text, I'm impressed with the writing – as I usually am with RightBlogger!

The best part for me is that it also finds places to interlink.

Even though I have LinkWhisper, I'm lazy and I rarely use it, so I end up linking manually to posts that I remember. I have ADHD and no thyroid, so the amount of posts I remember is about as small as my attention span after noon.

Final Edits

Okay so now you have your draft, you've moved it over to WordPress, and you're editing. If you followed the steps above, little editing should be needed. If you find yourself spending a long time on edits, put more work into frontloading more of your voice examples – and try a video transcript if you haven't yet.

When someone lands on your blog, they should feel like they're getting advice from that one friend who always knows what's up (you know the one!). So if you write a draft with an AI tool and it doesn't feel like you? Edit it until it does, or start over and train the robot better.

AI is an amazing tool to help us be more efficient, to dig deeper into serving our audiences, and to help us make a fuckton of money. But if you are lazy about it, if you don't take time to train or edit, your readers are going to know – they're going to feel that something is off. And that's when you lose them.

FAQ

Can AI really learn my writing style?

Yes, AI can learn your writing patterns and voice – but only if you take the time to train it properly. The days of robotic-sounding blog posts are over (thank sweet baby Transformer). Tools like RightBlogger are specifically designed to capture your unique style, not just spit out generic content.

How long does it take to train AI on my voice?

With RightBlogger's MyTone feature, about 10 minutes. Drop in a blog post URL or paste a transcript, add your preferences, and you're good to go. Compare that to the hours you spend editing generic AI content to sound like you.

What if I write differently for different blogs?

That's exactly why the Projects feature exists. Create different voice settings for each project – keep it professional on your business blog, let loose on your personal site. RightBlogger remembers each voice profile so you don't have to switch mental gears every time.

Do I need to be a tech genius to figure this out?

Nope. If you can click buttons and paste text, you can train AI on your voice. RightBlogger handles all the complex stuff behind the scenes. You just tell it what you like and don't like about your writing style.

Homework Time!

Your readers can tell when you're being real with them. Take the time to set up your voice preferences in RightBlogger or your AI tool of choice, and you will see how much easier content creation becomes.

Real voice, but less work – that's what we're all after, right? If you want to take it up a notch even further (and you're not a chicken shit with videos ;)), use the Video to Blog Post tool inside of RightBlogger! It's all your voice and requires WAY less editing.
